Statement
“Good artists copy, great artists steal” Was a quote credited by the famous Steve Jobs to the equally famous Pablo Picasso. Although, there is no clear evidence of Picasso ever stating said quote one thing is for sure. I want to become someone that people will steal from. Someone that creates work he is proud of. I want to create something people will admire and respect for years to come. Whether it be a new style or a way of telling a story, I don’t know. What I do know is I believe I have the passion and the drive to accomplish it.
Design and art are mediums in which I communicate through. I use design and art to talk and engage with people. Creating art to me is like putting a chapter of your own bibliography out in the open for anyone to see. Anyone that creates art can share a little of their life with the rest of the world. Even if you don’t want to share your own story you can always create fictional characters through which you can tell stories that have never been told. This is why I enjoy art. Not only can you create illustrations that tell one's story, but also tell stories that have yet to see the light of day.
With every new piece of art I create I try to challenge myself by making conscious decisions and adding more detail than my previous work. Adding detail makes me think of the story aspect of the illustration. Every time I add something to the illustration I think to myself is this necessary? Does it actually project the story forward? Recently, I have drifted away from my challenge and started to make more graphical illustrations with no meaning behind them, but I plan to get back in track over the summer.
